Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) announced today that it has
donated $500,000 to the Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation for the
rebuilding of the Cedar Rapids Public Library, which was devastated by
floods in June 2008.
The check was presented to Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation
President Christine Schuety by Doug Brakhahn, plant manager of ADM’s
Cedar Rapids facility. The donation ceremony took place at the library’s
interim facility, located at Westdale Mall.
“ADM believes we have a responsibility to the communities where we live
and work,” said Brakhahn. “We are proud to present this gift to the
Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation and look forward to the day when
the library is fully restored and back in service to the Cedar Rapids
community.”
The donation was given through ADM Cares, the Company’s corporate giving
program, which supports educational initiatives for children and young
adults, and programs that build vibrant communities.
ADM operations in Cedar Rapids began in 1971 with the purchase of
interests in Corn Sweeteners, Inc. Today, approximately 400 employees
and 800 contractors work at the Company’s corn wet mill, co-generation
facility and Red Star yeast plant. Products made at these facilities
include high fructose corn syrup, corn gluten meal, corn gluten feed,
yeast and ethanol. ADM is expanding its ethanol production in Cedar
Rapids with the construction of a corn dry mill, which is slated for
completion in 2010.
